Where Jaguar leads, Mercedes follows. The German maker plans to build its next SLK from aluminium, using the same techniques as the British firm's XJ saloon. This involves the body panels being riveted and glued together, with extra strengthening added in strategic locations for parts such as the suspension mountings. It means the big Cat's aluminium technology is well suited to volume cars and is also likely to grace future S and X-Type replacements.
