There's good news and bad news for diesel fans. Honda has announced its CR-V will come with its acclaimed 2.2-litre i-CTDi unit - but buyers won't be able to get their hands on one until the spring. Prices are set to start from £19,000.

A minor facelift means a new grille for the soft-roader, plus revised lights, 16-inch alloys, a hard spare wheel cover and wider arch projectors. The diesel variant, which covers 0-60mph in 10.6 seconds and returns 39.8mpg, gets a tailgate spoiler. Cabin revisions include better materials and instrumentation. Petrol models go on sale in November from £17,600, a slight increase over the existing car.
