Biker's Lucky Mascot

Paddington famously had a 'Please Look After This Bear' tag round his neck - and that would have been useful for this little chap, too. More than 20 years old and the lucky mascot of a motorcyclist, he was lost on the M27 in Hampshire. He fell out of the rider's rucksack on the westbound carriageway, so the grieving biker reported his loss to the Highways Agency, telling staff it was of great sentimental value.

A team from roads contractor Mott MacDonald was working in the area, and was told to keep an eye out for the toy. Amazingly, 18 days later the bear was spotted by one of the workmen, and he was returned to his rightful owner. "I am extremely pleased to have him back," said the man, who asked not to be named. Pictured with bear and bike is Alex Skinner, a member of the crew that found him.
