Suzuki Set For Swift Success

Meet the new car that Suzuki hopes will make a Swift exit from showrooms. These are the first official pictures of the Japanese firm's all-new supermini, which will make its debut at the Paris Motor Show later this month.

02nd September 2004

The new Swift, which echoes the styling of the Concept S first seen at the 2002 Paris expo, has been designed with ambitious European sales targets in mind. As a result, it's one of the company's most stylish models ever, with fresh, contemporary lines and a more upmarket cabin finish.

It will arrive in UK showrooms in May next year, and is expected to cost from ΂£6,500. Three and a five-door body styles will be available, while plans to unveil cabriolet and hot hatch versions are also in the pipeline. At launch, three engines will be available; petrol power will be provided by 91bhp 1.3 and 102bhp 1.5-litre units, while a diesel model, using GM/Fiat's 1.3-litre 70bhp common-rail oil-burner, will be offered.
