Connaught Type-D

Fast needn't mean thirsty, according to a rejuvenated British car maker. Bosses at Northants-based Connaught have revealed this high-performance hybrid, the Type-D.

09th September 2004

It uses a 162bhp V10 petrol engine allied to an electric motor, similar in principle to Toyota's Prius. Priced ΂£36,000, the lightweight four-seater is an Audi TT rival, and will go on sale in 2006. It can sprint from 0-60mph in 6.5 seconds and return 42mpg. Investors in the project are now being sought.

The last model to bear the Connaught name was the Fifties' Type-C racer. After building a number of successful GP cars, the original firm closed in 1957.
