For the first time ever, Vauxhall is the UK's top seller of new vehicles. The Corsa, Astra and Zafira were all in last month's top 10, helping the Luton maker leapfrog rival Ford with van sales included.

Despite dropping into second place, Ford still had Britain's best-selling model: the Focus. Overall, new car sales in August were down 4.9 per cent on the same month last year.
