Flash In On Safety

Here's a bright idea to make cyclists safer on the roads. They're to have their backs turned into television screens so they'll be more visible to drivers.

The system is a panel of coloured LED lights sewn into a jacket. The bulbs flash, display words or even arrows to show which way the rider is turning.

All the images are stored on a mobile phone or Personal Digital Assistant (PDA), and are sent by Bluetooth wireless technology to the panel. The rider can change the message by pressing a key on their handset, which could be fitted to the handlebars. Inventors at France Telecom aim to have the device on sale in the future.
