Jaguar is closing its Browns Lane factory at Coventry, with a loss of around 1100 jobs, some voluntary. The remainder of the 2,500 workforce will be relocated to other plants.

Union officials say the parent company, Ford, made promises to keep production at Coventry, and there is talk of a strike throughout the other plants to show solidarity. It is a massive economic blow for the area.
