Lightning Set To Strike

The next Frontera is a car Vauxhall badly needs - so much so that a recent document on restructuring GM Europe made no bones about it being on the way.

But what else can buyers expect? Tantalisingly, the report also mentioned "the introduction of the next-generation Corsa and a new two-seater roadster in 2006".

The new supermini is no surprise - we revealed exclusively how it would look in issue 812. But this short sentence will be music to the ears of fans of the supercharged 2.2-litre VX Lightning sports car unveiled in London to mark Vauxhall's 100th birthday last year.

A production version will go on sale globally under the Pontiac, Buick, Chevrolet and Opel brands. But bosses have yet to decide if it's worth re-engineering it for right-hand drive in the UK. Let's hope their numbers add up...
