Smart alloys and a gunmetal grey finish to the lower bodywork distinguish it from lesser models in the range. The pictures also show how the Abarth rides 5cm closer to the ground.
Under the bonnet, a high-revving 1.4-litre engine developing 105bhp will give the car a 0-60mph sprint time of less than eight seconds. But the relatively modest power output means it will be affordable for younger drivers to insure. The Abarth is expected to make its debut at the Geneva Motor Show in March, with a showroom appearance in left-hand-drive markets likely towards the end of the summer.
A decision hasn't been made about the car's future in Britain. Insiders say it may only be built as a left-hooker, as RHD volumes would be too small to justify the engineering costs. However, the firm's Barchetta roadster is available here in LHD, so there's a chance it may yet appear in UK showrooms.
