New 607 Shows Its Face

Forget going from strength to strength; the Lion on the revised Peugeot 607 is simply bigger! The larger emblem appears on the facelifted 2005 car, seen here for the first time. A new front bumper, extra chrome grille trim and colour-coded protective strips also mark it out. However, the upgrades run more than skin deep. The flagship 3.0-litre V6 gets a 6bhp power boost to 211bhp, and is now available with a six-speed Tiptronic automatic gearbox. It also boasts electronically controlled variable suspension.

Improved damping and bigger brakes are standard, as is the latest-generation ESP stability control. Inside, the centre console gets a new aluminium finish, while SE models feature Peugeot's integrated sat-nav and phone. Prices start at ΂£20,300 for the base 2.0-litre HDi. The 2.2 HDi auto is the most expensive oil-burner at ΂£24,600, while the petrol V6 costs ΂£29,700. The new car is on sale now, but with only 1,131 607s shifted between January and October this year, it won't be a common sight.
