Spaced-out Offenders Being Let Off The Gap Rap

The number of drivers prosecuted for having messed with the spacing of numbers and letters on their car's registration plate has fallen dramatically. During 2000, more than 1,400 motorists were fined up to ΂£1,000 each for breaking the rules. So far this year, the total is 566. A DVLA spokesman said it was the responsibility of the police to catch offenders.
