Stretched R-Class Is Ready To Grow

Mercedes is readying its biggest-ever people carrier to be unveiled at January's Detroit event. The firm will unveil a lengthened version of its Vision R luxury crossover vehicle.

Based on the platform of the M-Class - driven on Page 24 - both standard and long-wheelbase production models will go on sale in 2005, badged as the R-Class. Merc will also showcase its new V6 diesel at Detroit. Replacing both five and six-cylinder oil-burners in the current C, E and S-Class, it will initially be available in 221bhp form.
