Babies Kit The Right Spot

Part of MG Rover's plans to expand its popularity across Europe is a raft of new model launches over the next few months.

05th January 2005

First up are two fresh versions of the MG ZR. The Trophy and Trophy SE join Britain's best-selling hot hatch line-up this month as part of a revamped range. Both get the flagship ZR 160's side skirts and reprofiled rear bumper, but not the 157bhp engine.

The entry-level ZR 105 Trophy will cost ΂£9,995, with the SE ΂£1,000 more, as MG Rover bids to offer younger drivers the ZR 160's looks in a package without the hefty insurance premium. Price cuts are expected across the ZR range as well.

Later in the year, the CityRover will get a minor facelift, with the entry-level Solo benefiting from anti-lock brakes and power-steering. More than 50 improvements will be made to the range, including revised interior trim. The price will be dropped to ΂£5,995. A diesel CityRover, using a 53bhp 1.4-litre engine, should appear in UK dealerships by the summer.
