Jaguar In Cat-oon Capers

Luxury brand Jaguar is getting animated over adverts for its X-Type. Bosses hope a series of Internet promotions featuring Japanese-style cartoon footage will appeal to younger, Web-savvy buyers

05th January 2005

Each of the five 'webisodes' forms a chapter of the eight-minute movie X-ing Over. Characters trapped in a dull routine have their lives transformed when they come into contact with the British-built car.

It is the latest example of firms marketing cars on the Internet using film technology. Auto Express revealed how Ford is promoting the Fiesta ST with 'viral' E-mails in Issue 838. Meanwhile, new diesel and estate versions of the X-Type led to record UK sales of Jaguars last year, up 15 per cent on 2003.

And there's news on changes to the range, too; entry-level X-Types will get revisions to the 2.0-litre diesel. New engine management will improve throttle response, but prices will increase by ΂£500.
