It's based on the new three-door - driven by Auto Express this week - and is powered by a 2.0-litre petrol engine. Developing around 140bhp, the model is expected to appeal to younger buyers looking for a hot hatch with affordable insurance premiums.Clues about the styling were given by a sporty Irmscher model revealed when the car was still badged a Daewoo. The Chevy will get a bodykit, sports seats and 16-inch alloys. A cheaper 1.4-litre version is also likely.

Plans to expand the brand further include new diesels, due this year. Chevrolet is developing a three-cylinder 1.5-litre unit and a four-cylinder 2.0, both based on existing Hyundai oil-burners.
