Bluetooth 'Car Virus' Warning

We're used to hearing about computers crashing because of a virus, but could it soon be your car that's affected? One technology expert has warned that it might be - and it's all because of mobile phones.

Patrick Runal, from Finnish anti-viral firm F-Secure, believes vehicles may be at risk of infection by bugs spread via Bluetooth headsets. Once inside a handset, he says, the problem program can spread to any device using a similar operating system.

"There are already a number of viruses which affect phones, and it's only a matter of time before vehicles are susceptible," said Runal. However, any attack is unlikely to cause an accident. Entertainment, navigation and communication systems are the most likely to be disabled.
