Revealed: Proton's Crinkled Star!

Today's tabloid is tomorrow's chip paper - but you wouldn't believe your eyes if your cod was wrapped in this crinkled page! The cutting is taken from Malaysia's Sin Chew Daily, and gives the world its first peek at Proton's forthcoming TRM city car.

08th February 2005

It's clear the model will be a radical departure for the budget maker. We first showed spy shots of the newcomer in issue 817, and this picture proves designers have stuck with the aggressive nose, with deep bumpers and classy light clusters. This look will help the car appeal to younger, image-conscious buyers.

Thanks to input from top chassis engineers at Lotus - which Proton owns - the model should offer an entertaining driving experience. Meanwhile, engines are expected to be provided by Renault.

The TRM is launched in its native market this summer, and goes on sale here alongside the larger SRM before the end of the year.
