New 407 In Coupé Heaven

It's predecessor has been absent from the UK sales charts for a couple of years, so news that a two-door 407 is about to arrive will please fans of Peugeot's old 406 Coupé.

The French manufacturer is poised to take the wraps off its Prologue Coup΃© Concept at the Geneva Motor Show - and insiders have told us the car that will go on display will be virtually identical to the production version.

Due to arrive before the end of the year, the newcomer's styling is similar to that of the 407 saloon, except for the more steeply raked back window and lack of rear doors. In profile, the long nose and stubby tail give a distinctive look, and make the two-door appear bigger than the 406 Coup΃© it replaces. The show car is the first 407 to use the 2.7-litre V6 turbodiesel co-developed by Peugeot, Citroen and Ford; this unit offers 210bhp and 440Nm of torque, and delivers effortless performance and great refinement.

The 407 Coup΃© is expected to have directional xenon headlamps, front and rear parking assistance, laminated side windows and full-colour sat-nav as standard. Meanwhile, the firm has revealed some more attractions for the Geneva expo.

As well as the soon-to-be-launched 107 and 1007 models, a new variant of the 206 CC drop-top, fitted with the 110bhp diesel powerplant from the 206 GTi HDi, will appear on the stands. This car will compete with the new oil-burning Vauxhall Tigra when it debuts here later in the year.
