Hyundai MPV Is A Glass Act

These two cars prove that Korean firm Hyundai is finally getting it right in the design department.

15th February 2005

First up is the Portico concept, which was unveiled at last week's Chicago Motor Show. The company's stylists claim to have made the large people carrier look nearly as sleek and stylish as a sports car.

That's partly due to the lack of B-pillars and the use of barn-style doors. Inside, the newcomer seats six, with the chairs arranged in two rows of three. The cabin has an airy feel, thanks to the full-length panoramic roof boasting glass panels that can be darkened to provide shade.

On a smaller scale, the sketch below previews the Matrix replacement, due in 2007. It's the HED-1 (Hyundai European Design-1), and it's set to be unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show. As with its larger sibling, the new mini-MPV will feature barn-style double doors.
