Polluters Set To See Red

A new emissions labelling system - similar to that used on fridges - has been announced for cars.

15th February 2005

Buyers visiting showrooms will be able to see how green each motor is, thanks to a colour-coded sticker on the windscreen, which reflects the vehicle's emissions.

The most polluting new cars - ones with a CO2 rating of over 186g/km - will have a red sticker. The cleanest will be dark green, for emissions rated at less than 100g/km - which currently means only electric vehicles. There are four other coloured markings.
