Mazda's 5 In For The Long Haul

Even before it goes on sale, Mazda's new 5 is causing a stir. On display in a walkway leading to a Tokyo rail- way station in Japan, this advert for the new people carrier is the longest promo poster in the world.

22nd February 2005

Measuring 311 metres, it could span three football pitches, and features 106 images, including 60 family portraits. According to Guinness World Records, the current record holder is 'only' 274m, and was produced by London-based agency Saatchi and Saatchi for the Rome Opera House in 1998.
Now, Mazda bosses aim to petition Guinness to claim the honour for themselves. The reason for the poster is simple; the 5 recently went on sale in Japan, where it's badged Premacy. It will come to the UK in July. The practical people carrier replaces the forgettable MPV, and offers an innovative seating system. Described as a '6+1' layout, the cabin has six full-sized chairs and a smaller occasional seat in the centre of the second row. It shares underpinnings with Ford's Focus C-MAX compact MPV.
