£15k Passat, But Not For UK

Even if you are not in favour of the Euro, we reckon you would probably prefer to pay the continental price for Volkswagen's new Passat.

22nd February 2005

While costs for the UK are yet to be announced, VW in Germany has revealed that its new family saloon will be available from 21,800 Euros - which is around ΂£15,250.

That's ΂£1,200 less than the UK price of the equivalent outgoing model. A range-topper costs about ΂£18,000 in its native country, but it's likely to be more expensive when it arrives here in November.

Meanwhile, the firm has revealed another Golf model - the 4MOTION all-wheel-drive version. Engineers say the 4WD system is faster-acting, quieter and more compact than on the MkIV car. It's available to order now, with a choice of two 2.0-litre GT engines, an FSI 150 petrol unit or a TDI 140 diesel powerplant.
