Now TVR Storms The Desert!

Nowhere's an unusual sight... a TVR testing in the desert. For the first time in its 56-year history, the Blackpool-based firm has been conducting the hot-weather trials which all mainstream manufacturers carry out on their models.

The company confirmed the change of direction after it supplied us with this official picture of the 350C being put through its paces in Saudi Arabia. It's hoped the new development scheme will improve TVR's record on mechanical reliability. Head of marketing Phil James told us: "We think the improvements in quality and durability will be warmly welcomed."

Despite the lack of testing before, engineers said the cars performed well in the desert. The programme has resulted in numerous minor changes, with an emphasis on component durability. And that has led the firm to put its money where its mouth is, as Russian boss Nikolai Smolenski has unveiled a fresh warranty scheme. Any new model bought after 1 March - on an 05-plate - will come with three years or 36,000 miles of cover. This is uncharted territory for TVR, which previously offered only a single-year deal, with a two-year, unlimited mileage engine guarantee.
