Ford Drivers' Cash Risk

Keep out of the way of Ford drivers - they're more likely to make an insurance claim than owners of any other brand of car.

02nd March 2005

Figures from Middlesex-based cover broker Allen & Allen have revealed 19 per cent of policyholders with a blue oval motor - nearly one in five - filed a claim last year. That's almost twice the rate of Peugeot owners, the second most accident-prone group.

However, a poll by the firm's online arm www.quoteacar.co.uk found most people think those behind the wheel of a BMW are actually the worst drivers.

A spokeswoman for Allen & Allen said: "It seems BMW owners have a bad reputation. But our records show this is unfair as they are only seventh most likely to have an accident. It's Ford drivers people should be really wary of." Meanwhile, a shocking 30 per cent of young motorists have got behind the wheel without any cover, an RAC Foundation survey has found. Of those, 13 per cent said this was acceptable as "it doesn't harm anyone". Statistics show drivers who don't have insurance are nine times more likely to crash than honest motorists who do.
