As with the coup©, the convertible will get a choice of normally aspirated or supercharged 4.2-litre V8 engines, in two trims. Based on a modified version of the aluminium XJ's chassis, the new model will be lighter and more nimble than at present. All variants will feed power to the rear wheels through a six- speed auto transmission, and the flagship XKR is expected to sprint from 0-60mph in five seconds.
Set to debut at September's Frankfurt Motor Show, the drop-top and coup© will go on sale next year.
Meanwhile, Jaguar used the Geneva Motor Show to unveil a new special edition of the current XK, the 4.2 S. Standard cabin upgrades - such as the Bluetooth wireless communication system - were previously available only as options. The 4.2 S is on sale now in either coup© or convertible form.
