Called the SAV, the Swiss show car points the way to a new niche model, likely to be known as the S-MAX. It will be sold as a lifestyle vehicle to fit in the blue oval range between the conventional Mondeo and an all-new full-sized MPV, replacing the ageing Galaxy.
The SAV features enormous 21-inch alloy wheels, an aggressive nose and a reverse-angle C-pillar. The sporty look is completed by a silver bumper insert and a roof spoiler at the back.
Inside, there's a Focus C-MAX-style dash and an auto gearstick with steering wheel-mounted selectors. The SAV has a row of three rear seats, but the centre chair can be slid backwards
electrically, as our picture reveals. With this 4+1 arrangement, the two remaining passengers can move their seats inwards for more space. While the production car will be less radical than the concept, the SAV's distinctive curved roof and swept-back headlights will become a reality. A simplified version of the seating system will feature, giving an advantage over key rivals. Meanwhile, the Mondeo chassis should ensure fine ride and handling.
The final version will debut later this year - possibly at September's Frankfurt Motor Show - with sales expected to start in around 12 months' time.
