Ultimate Zafira Ready To Roll

There wasn't only one new MPV at the Geneva show - Vauxhall boosted its people-carrying credentials with this machine, the flagship VXR version of the next Zafira.

02nd March 2005

Power is from a 240bhp 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine, and coupled to a six-speed manual gearbox it gives a 0-60mph sprint time of 7.2 seconds. That's quicker than the GSi variant of the outgoing car.

Claimed to be the fastest model of its type available in Europe, the sporty vehicle is marked out by a revamped front bumper with integrated foglights and a spoiler at the rear. There's also revised side sills and bigger 18-inch alloy wheels, plus twin exhaust pipes and blue-painted brake calipers.

Inside, there are two-tone Recaro front sport seats, as well as a host of other racy details. Sales start in October, three months after those of the rest of the line-up. Prices have yet to be confirmed, but the VXR should be less than ΂£22,000.
