Extreme Exige Blasts In

One of the fastest Lotus production cars ever - that's what buyers of the latest limited-edition Exige will be getting. They'll have to be nearly as quick as the car itself, though, because only 50 examples will be sold worldwide.

The Lotus Sport Exige 240R delivers 243bhp and can sprint from 0-60mph in less than four seconds. Top speed is 155mph. The power hike is courtesy of a supercharger fitted to the standard model's 1.8-litre Toyota VVTL-i engine.

Upgraded brakes and revamped suspension also feature, along with wider wheels and bespoke Yokohama tyres. Circuit-only slicks will be an option. The ΂£43,995 models are to be individually numbered and come with four-point racing harnesses. Buyers will have a choice of two colours: yellow or black.

Meanwhile, the Norfolk firm unveiled an example of its new Versatile Vehicle Architecture (VVA) at the Geneva Motor Show this week. The aluminium platform could be used by major car companies wanting to build low-volume, niche models, and is aimed at attracting manufacturers without a suitable chassis of their own.
