Sources close to the project have told Auto Express the production version will be revealed at the Tokyo Motor Show in October. The SUV is being jointly developed with PSA Peugeot Citroen, and each of the French brands will have its own model, called the 707 and C7 respectively.
However, our insider ruled out a joint unveiling, as PSA and Toyota did at the Geneva expo with their new city cars. The Outlander will come with a choice of two diesels - ironic as it doesn't even have one at the moment. They will be the 2.0-litre PD TDI unit from VW, which will also power the Grandis MPV from August, and a 2.2-litre HDi from PSA.
Meanwhile, an all-new Shogun will be on sale on UK forecourts from 2007, and is likely to make its world debut at next year's Geneva exhibition or the Paris show in 18 months' time.
