British motorists could lose over 150,000 hours over the four-day Easter weekend through avoidable breakdowns says the AA. A spokesman said: "With Easter being early this year, many cars will be heading off on their first long journey for several months. If motorists do some basic maintenance before they head off they could reduce the risk of having the inconvenience of a breakdown."

The AA's suggested checklist includes oil and water levels, coolant hose condition, battery connections and tyre checks for wear and the correct pressures.
