Ultimate Colt Gets Ready For The Off

Look out, the Colt is getting a few extra horses! An uprated Evo-style version of the supermini will make its debut at the Tokyo Motor Show in October. The new car, dubbed the Turnpike, is based on the five-door model, and thought to be the work of motorsport specialist RalliArt.

Mitsubishi UK has revealed plans for a three-door variant for the British market. A spokeswoman confirmed: "We are working with Japanese tuner HKS, but at the moment the project is still in its infancy." She said that getting more power from the CZT's 1.5-litre turbocharged engine won't be a problem. The same unit delivers 170bhp in the Brabus-tuned Smart ForFour, but Mitsubishi hopes to do better.

Further alterations could include suspension and steering upgrades. However, if the changes push the price too far beyond the CZT's ΂£13,000 tag, the project could be axed. "It's still not a definite," the spokeswoman added, "but we'd hope a higher-performance Colt will arrive by September."
