Audi Ferries In New A4 Cabrio

Auto Express magazine has done it again! Exclusive images in this week's mag lift the lid on a dramatic new look for the Audi A4 Cabriolet.

Spotted by an eagle-eyed reader on a ferry in Germany, this lightly disguised prototype reveals the newcomer will get the distinctive-looking headlamps of the recently facelifted saloon, although the tail-lights are a different shape. The firm's distinctive family face is in evidence, too, as the extended radiator grille is also present - but this time it's surrounded by extra chrome trim.

Yet while the facelifted A4 saloon and Avant are already on sale here, the new cabrio is not expected to hit the company's British showrooms any time soon. Current plans suggest prospective buyers will have to wait until early next year for the car. Prices have still to be confirmed but, according to a source within Audi, they will increase by approximately ΂£1,000 - which means the range is expected to start from around ΂£26,000.

The new-look line-up will give buyers a choice of 1.8-litre turbo, as well as 2.4 and 3.0-litre V6-engined editions. A hot S4 variant - powered by a 4.2-litre V8 - is also being developed, as is an updated 2.5-litre TDI diesel. As before, both front-wheel drive and 4x4 quattro cars will be offered, the latter with a premium of around ΂£1,500.

The package of improvements won't stop there, either, as upgrades to the suspension are expected to boost the drop-top's ride and handling. There have been revisions made to the car's interior, too, with a new-look dash giving a more luxurious feel. Drivers can also expect greater refinement, thanks to better soundproofing of the car's electrically operated canvas hood.
