Smart Hints He's Set To Wield Axe

The future of Smart has been thrown into doubt by the boss of parent company DaimlerChrysler. "We are known for unpopular decisions," J΃¼rgen Schrempp (image) told analysts at a meeting about the range's poor performance. However, a spokeswoman for Smart was unaware of the reports. "We have no further news about what the plans are to take the company forward in the future. This is all just speculation," she said. The slow-selling ForFour has failed to strengthen the brand, which could make losses of ΂£400million this year, according to industry experts.
