Facelifted 9-5 Breaks The Ice

If this week's magazine spy shots of the new-look 9-5 are anything to go by, it seems as though Saab is off to a flier!

The mag's images show a traditional-looking front. Although partly hidden by the plastic covering, it's clear stylists at the Swedish firm have gone for a more angular design.

The revised nose features reshaped headlamps which flow into the front wings, while fresh tail-light clusters complete the makeover. The facelifted 9-5 is expected to hit showrooms in September. It will be offered with a new 3.2-litre V6 petrol engine, while the current diesel line-up will also be available.
Other modifications include revamped suspension for improved ride and handling, while inside, the quality of the cabin will be boosted with new, better seats and an upgraded stereo. But this isn't the whole story. The mag's images show extended wheelarches on the prototypes, and they've been extended to accommodate a wider track. Could this be due to the fact that the car is also being used to test parts for the all-new, bigger next-generation 9-5, which isn't set to arrive until 2008?
