Long Arm Of The Law Falls Short

More than 75 per cent of people think British traffic police are lazy and rely too heavily on speed cameras to catch bad drivers. That's one of the key findings in week two of our exclusive Driver Power 2005 report.

Half the 50,000 motorists who took part in the survey thought there weren't enough traffic cops on patrol, while four out of 10 admitted to having less respect for law enforcers than they used to. However, 57 per cent said the police were doing a good job and deserved our support.

Auto Express editor in chief David Johns said: "It's clear British drivers are becoming more sceptical about the use of speed cameras instead of police. Gatsos will criminalise someone travelling a few miles per hour over the limit, but will ignore tailgaters, and drunk and drugged drivers, if they're going slow enough."
