GM Marques Face Axe

Poor-performing brands in the General Motors empire are facing the axe. The US firm's vice-chairman, Bob Lutz, didn't provide any clues about which companies are under threat, but described Buick and Pontiac as "damaged brands". His comments follow a profit warning from the company amid fears that falling sales could see earnings drop by 80 per cent in 2005.
