New Yaris MPV Is In The Pink!

Supplied by sources close to Toyota, exclusive images in the current issue of the magazine reveal the MPV version of the next-generation Yaris, which goes into production in 2006. But whether or not the car comes to Britain is still hanging in the balance.

Bosses are sceptical about the merits of introducing the new model, as the Verso accounted for only six per cent of last year's Yaris sales in Britain. A Toyota spokesman said: "While the new Yaris line-up is yet to be confirmed, it's unlikely the Verso will be part of the UK range."

As the images in the mag show, work is well underway on the new Honda Jazz rival, but designers have played safe with the styling. The outgoing car was criticised for its ungainly lines, which is why the new version has been given a sleeker shape.

Inside, one feature that will be carried over is the versatile cabin. However, with the new Verso sitting on the same stretched and widened chassis as the next-generation Yaris, it will be even roomier inside.
Roadholding and ride quality should also be improved, while the engine line-up will remain the same as that seen in the current Yaris. That means entry-level models are likely to be powered by 71bhp 1.0-litre petrol units, while 1.4-litre diesel variants will be the most economical choice.

The new model promises to be perfect for families on a budget, so if you would like to see it to come to the UK, write to Auto Express and contact your local Toyota dealer to register your interest.
