Set to arrive at dealers in the UK in autumn priced from around ΂£55,000, the new Avant will be the Ingolstadt firm's fastest estate car, now that the larger RS6 is no longer available. Featuring the same 420bhp 4.2-litre V8 as the saloon, the four wheel-drive, six-speed load-lugger will sprint from 0-60mph in less than five seconds, on to a limited top speed of 155mph.

Despite the estate's extra weight, it's expected to drive as well as the saloon. As with the four-door, the RS4 Avant will feature an aggressive mesh grille and low front splitter with integrated foglights. It will also get lightweight aluminium suspension, bonnet and front wings.

The cabin is set to feature Audi RS bucket seats and other sporty features including a starter button, plus a switch on the steering wheel which sharpens up the throttle response to deliver an even more thrilling drive.
