Mazda's stylists have also blacked out the 2's C-pillar to help make its side profile appear sleeker and longer. The facelift, which is finished at the rear with round-lens tail-lights and an optional roof-mounted spoiler, is designed to tempt buyers away from the svelte Honda Jazz and cute-looking Renault Modus.
Inside, the new 2 will improve on its already impressive cabin with better materials and an increased trim option range. It will retain the excellent folding seat arrangement, which offers a maximum 1,044-litre load area. The engine line-up will also remain unchanged, with 1.2, 1.4 and 1.6-litre petrol units, plus a 1.4-litre common-rail diesel. The new model arrives here later this year, with a minimal price increase expected over the existing car.
