New Lights See Pole Axed

A hi-tech replacement for the old Stop-Go sign on a pole will soon be bringing traffic to a halt wherever the road is being dug up. The cute Millennium mobile lights have been launched for use at temporary roadworks. They're cheaper and weigh less than the current cumbersome units.

The whole system has been designed to fit in the back of a small van, and went on display at the Traffex trade show in Birmingham. The battery-operated LED lights are fixed to a telescopic pole on a base the size of a small lawnmower, which can be wheeled around.

Construction companies have already begun placing orders for the French invention. It means the person who used to hold the Stop-Go sign can now help mend the road - and get the job finished more quickly as a result!
