Parking Ticket Explosion

The RAC is warning families out and about this Bank Holiday Monday to beware parking wardens, after official figures released last week revealed a marked increase in parking tickets issued in England and Wales.

28th April 2005

More penalty charge notices than ever before were issued in 2003 and reached 7.1million - equivalent to one every five seconds, or more than 19,000 every day. According to the RAC, the top three parking ticket hotspots outside London are Brighton and Hove (161,194 tickets), Birmingham (147,994) and Manchester (123,584).

The figures also show those looking for a life away from the wardens should head to Basingstoke, Hampshire or Sevenoaks in Kent, which recorded a relatively small 2,755 and 5,160 tickets respectively in 2003.
