'Talking' Cars' Safety Drive

08th June 2005

Cars that can gossip to each other are being tested, so they can spread the word about hazards and make roads safer. DaimlerChrysler is working with US scientists to capture data from a vehicle's electronic sensors. That's transmitted to a roadside box, which then broadcasts it to other motors in the area. So if one car's traction control detects a slippery corner, the information is relayed to other drivers as they approach the same bend.
