New Perodua's A Toy Wonder

Could this be the car that finally establishes Perodua in the UK? It's called the Myvi, and will give British buyers a cheaper alternative to the Honda Jazz, Vauxhall Corsa and Ford Fiesta when it arrives here next year.

06th July 2005

The Malaysian supermini shares some of its underpinnings with the next Toyota Yaris. However, in terms of design, the bold headlights, wide grille and flared wheelarches give the car a sporty look. Meanwhile, the high roof should mean there is plenty of headroom inside the cabin, which features a dashboard with a centrally mounted instrument panel.

There will be a choice of two petrol engines from launch: a 58bhp 1.0-litre unit and an 87bhp 1.3-litre. The latter is available with an optional four-speed auto. The Myvi will go on sale in early 2006 priced from around ΂£7,500, placing it between the Kelisa and Kenari in the Perodua range.
