Monster Maybach Exels on roadgoing debut

My oh my oh Maybach... As if the German firm hadn't made a special enough car as it is, these fabulous shots show there is likely to be more to come.

Wild Maybach hit road ahead of Essen Motor Show appearance

29th November 2005

Our images prove the Maybach Exelero has now hit the road. It was spied in Dusseldorf on a photoshoot ahead of the recent Essen Motor Show in Germany, and witnesses said the wild looks were matched by a fearsome sound from its 700bhp 5.9-litre V12.

Rumoured to have cost ΂£1.2million to make, the Exelero was crafted by Turin coachbuilder Stola with money from Maybach and tyre giant Fulda - which has developed unique 23-inch low-profile rubber for the car. High-speed testing in Italy has proved the tyres are up to the job, too - the 2.66-tonne Exelero hit a 221mph maximum.
