Beak points way to safer cars

Toucans may hold the secret to stronger, less heavy cars. The tropical bird's beak fits the bill when it comes to super-strength and lightness - an ideal combination for vehicles.

Scientists from the University of California, San Diego, say the toucan's beak - a hard shell containing sections of soft foam - is perfect. Bumpers and panels made in the same way could boost safety and economy.
