Spyker spicier than Cayenne?

Here's a car that's in it for the long run. This is the new Spyker D12 Peking-Paris, badged in honour of the gruelling rally in which an original Spyker came second in 1907.

Wild Spyker 4x4 has aluminium bodywork and VW's 6.0-litre W12

07th March 2006

The £200,000 'Super SUV' is aimed at buyers who think the Porsche Cayenne simply isn't exclusive enough. With four-wheel drive and a 500bhp version of VW's 6.0-litre W12, the aluminium-bodied off-roader weighs a hefty 1,895kg. However, it manages 0-60mph in five seconds and has a top speed of 185mph, while lurking behind the 24-inch alloys are carbon brake discs.

Other highlights include rear-hinged 'suicide' doors, which give access to a sumptuous four-seater interior. Up front is a dashboard designed in the style of an aeroplane cockpit. On sale in 2007, the D12 Peking-Paris joins the C8 two-seater supercar in Spyker's line-up, and is expected to be snapped up by well heeled customers in the Middle East, US and China.
