The Cadillac BLS range of executive saloons is to be launched in the UK from April 8th, General Motors has announced.

That's a very curvy road for an American saloon to be hurtling down...

12 models, including their first ever turbo diesel, plus 3 petrol variants, will be available at prices ranging from £19,950 up to £31,600, putting them firmly into BMW and Lexus territory.

Claimed performance specs are certainly up to the mark - the 150 hp diesel gets to 62mph in 9.5 seconds and returns 46.3mpg (combined), while the top-end 2.8 V6 turbo petrol turns out a mighty 255hp, and gets the BLS to 62mph in 6.7 secs, and on to a limited 155mph.

The standard spec looks good too - traction control, stability management, electronic brake back-up, form part of the active safety equipment, while front, side and curtain airbags plus active front seat head restraints round out the passive equipment.

GM will also be expanding the dealer network operated through www.stratstone.co.uk to 19 locations, with the newest appearing in Edinburgh, Glasgow, Leicester, Northampton, Nottingham, Stockport and Walton-on-Thames.
