European makers are failing in their commitment to significantly reduce their cars' CO2 emissions. That's according to the latest figures from the European Federation for Transport and Environment, which claims average output is still too high.

In 1998, the European Automobile Manufacturers' Association promised the EU it would reach an average 140g/km per car by 2008; in 2005, the figure was still 160g/km.
