Roadside fixers get hi-tech help

Breakdown patrols will be able to fix more problems at the roadside in future, says the RAC. It's part of a research project which lets mechanics wire-lessly access a car firm's information database via a laptop in their van. Currently, they can only use RAC-supplied repair notes.

"It will open up a vast amount more data than at the moment," said an RAC spokesman. The scheme starts in 2008.
